"Honestly, even if no one saw my pictures I would still be a photographer. It’s just something that always brings me comfort."
What’s your process when it comes to taking photos?
My process is a little weird because I get random ideas in the middle of the night. It will just come to me as an idea and snowball into something I just have to do. Sometimes the easiest way to start is to just grab a camera and go see what the world has to offer today. For any up and coming artist my advice is always trust in your process even if it’s wildly different from anyone else.
What inspires you?
I would say people are my biggest inspiration. Just everyday people. Without them I would have no stories to share with my pictures. No audience to appreciate the pictures. Every person I take a picture of I feel as though we’ve made a connection, and even if [we] didn’t speak, something was still shared between us. Outside of people, life itself is a big inspiration for me. Looking at how beautiful the world can be and capturing [that] beauty helps me stay grounded and appreciate the small moments. Sometimes you have to slow down and take in everything. The first time I ever held a camera I was 11 years old. My father handed me a camera at my grandfather’s retirement party, I instantly felt like it was the right thing for me. I remember feeling as though this was just meant for me. It wasn’t until I was 17 years old that I would actually go and shoot with my friends and post the pictures. Looking back on those pictures it’s really beautiful to see how I have evolved as a photographer and creative. I used to be nervous to post pictures, now at 24 years old I get excited whenever a film roll is ready. I just came back from shooting in the city with my digital camera. I always now just wanna share my pictures to whoever will see them. Honestly, even if no one saw my pictures I would still be a photographer. It’s just something that always brings me comfort.
What’s some of your favorite photos you’ve taken?
This one is definitely my favorite. The story speaks for itself in the picture, it all came along perfectly. I feel connected to it as I’ve been that kid interested in something creative, and mesmerized by it. Also, I just really think it’s a beautiful shot. If there’s any picture I can pick to be in a gallery or museum it’s definitely that one.
Let's talk about equipment. What cameras do you use?
I currently use three cameras. My main digital one being a Sony A7III, a Canon Autoboy AF35m for film, and my newest edition to the family [is] my Canon EOS Rebel XSN film camera. In total, I have 7 cameras. My first ever camera [was] the nikon D3200. My hope is to pass it down one day, maybe to a future child, or my niece if she’s ever interested in photography. The cameras remind me of where I was as a creator in that time, they’re like time capsules of my creative journey.
